GEL PCR COATING INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Easycoat is new and improved! While
containing the same active ingredients, Easycoat now has a gel consistency for easier
application and contains improved cleaning agents.
-
- Easycoat PCR coating is a proven single cycle coating for OEM PCRs.
Its purpose is to prevent static electricity from building on the PCR, to eliminate
ghosting, and gray backgrounds. It will prevent low humidity failures by eliminating
heavy toner discharge, which is caused by a build up of static electricity.
-
- If using Easycoat with a PCR that has been stripped with an acid or
solvent in your facility, make sure the PCR is no longer tacky before applying Easycoat.
Simply air drying for approximately 48 hours will remove all tackiness.
-
- Easycoat will work perfectly with most OEM HP black PCRs, the
Fuji 5/10, and IBM PCRs. The Easycoat gel formula is
not compatible with the AX PCR. We recommend using a cloth dampened
with water to clean them. Because of its texture, the AX PCR will absorb any
chemical used for cleaning or coating and will cause poor print results.
Please keep
in mind that Easycoat will not repair a damaged PCR.
-
- Application
-
- 1. Clean all loose toner off of the PCR. If baked on toner is
present, Easycoat will remove it during the coating process.
-
- 2. Squeeze a small amount of Easycoat onto a soft, lint free cloth
(use approximately the size of a dime). With your forefinger, wipe the PCR in short
vertical strokes along the entire surface, rotating the PCR as necessary. You will notice
the Easycoat will remove embedded dirt and toner as you apply it to the PCR.
-
- Apply as thin a coat as possible but coat the entire surface because
it is wasteful to apply excessive coating. Spread the coating thinly and evenly over the
entire PCR.
-
- 3. Using a clean section of your cloth, wipe the PCR thoroughly to a
shiny condition removing all excess coating.
-
- 4. The PCR is ready to install. When installing the PCR, try not to
touch the surface with your bare fingers. If you do accidentally touch the PCR,
rewipe the surface with a clean soft cloth.
-
- Apply Easycoat to the PCR between each cycle.

- HARD COAT & PRO COAT INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Using a 200 to 300 RPM lathe and a polyurethane swab. Note:
wear protective eye glasses when working with coatings.
-
- 1. Place the drum in the lathe and turn on the power. Start wiping
any excess toner off the drum while it is rotating. You can accomplish this by using one
of our Toner Grabber cloths (Part # TO7001).
-
- 2. After you have cleaned any loose toner from the drum, continue to
let it rotate. While the drum is turning, spray the complete surface with 99% Isopropyl
Alcohol. Do not worry, this will in no way harm a good drum. This is to ensure that you
will remove any oxidation, other coatings, creams or polishes off the drum. For easy
cleaning we recommend you use our Chicopee Cloths (Part # W1275). Using slight rotational
pressure, move the cloth back and forth on the drum surface. Once finished, let the drum
rotate for a few seconds so that any alcohol will evaporate completely. Please note, if
the drum has already been coated with Pro Coat or Hard Coat, you may skip this step.
-
- 3. While the drum is still turning in the lathe, dip the swab into
the bottle of coating. After the swab has absorbed the coating, you will need to remove
any excess coating from the swab. Do this by gently squeezing one side of the swab on the
inside of the bottle, do not press too hard.
-
- 4. Place the swab on the drum surface starting from the left side.
Hold the handle of the swab down and begin to move the swab slowly to the right. It should
take you roughly 30 seconds to go from left to right. You must move the swab slowly to
avoid any coating skips. When you reach the end of the drum, roll the swab
counter-clockwise and lift the swab off the drum. After you apply the coating, place the
swab back into the bottle for the next application. The swabs can be used approximately 10
times before you need to discard it.
-
- 5. Continue to let the drum rotate for 20 seconds before removing it
from the lathe. In some cases, you may see the coating ripple to the right; this is
perfectly normal. What you are seeing is the coating being evenly distributed along the
entire length of the drum.
-
- 6. Stop the lathe and remove the drum. You must place the drum on a
rack in a dark area to let them cure and to protect them from light or loose dust or
toner. For easy drying and stacking of your coated drums you can use our Drum Drying Racks
(Part # DR-195). Each rack will hold up to 19 SX drums and can be stacked on top of each
other.
-
- 7. Curing time for a coated drum is a minimum of 3 to 4 hours with
normal air drying. For best results, however, we recommend letting the coated drums dry
overnight.
-
- 8. After the drums have been properly cured and dried, you can place
the drum into a cartridge. Be sure to use padding powder on the drum. We have found that
the best dry lubricant is Zinc Sterate. Do not use toner or Kynar as a dry lubricant!
- Note: Pro Coat and Hard Coat are photoconductive coatings that are
harder than the original OEM drum surface. Any wear and tear will take place on the
coatings and no the original drum surface thereby assuring a maximum lifecycle of 3 uses
per drum. Also note that Pro Coat and Hard Coat are single cycle coatings. You will have
to re-coat the drums each time they come back.
-
- It is recommended that after a drum has been coated and been through
a complete cycle, repeat step #1. Do not use alcohol on the drum, then go directly to step
#4 and re-apply the new coating. You do not need to remove any Pro Coat or Hard Coat that
will still be on the drum at each cycle.
-
- Remember that coating drums may be a new process for you and it will
take a little practice to perfect your technique. Try using just plain alcohol on the
swabs to get a feel of the coating process. Do not worry if your first attempts are
unsuccessful. If the drums are not coated right the first time, immediately remove the
coating with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and reapply the coating.
-
- Pro Coat is to be used on PC type OEM and aftermarket drums. Hard
Coat is to be used on laserprinter type OEM and aftermarket drums.

- SUPERHARD
COAT & MEGA-COAT INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Using a 200 to 300 RPM lathe and a polyurethane swab. Note:
wear protective eye glasses when working with coatings.
-
- Please read before coating: SuperHard Coat and Mega-Coat are
much more sensitive in application than their predecessor Hard Coat. You must absolutely
follow these instructions and not deviate from them. The most critical step in these
instructions is STEP 3. Cardinal Imaging will not be held responsible in any way if
your drums do not turn out right as a result of not reading these instructions or doing
other procedures not stated here. If you do another procedure other than the steps
shown in these instructions, please call our technical support before coating! We can not
stress enough how important STEP 3 is in the application procedure. We have also put a
Frequently Asked Questions list at the end of these instructions, so please read them as
well.
-
While the drum is turning, spray the complete surface with 99% Isopropyl

you will remove any oxidization, other coatings, creams or polishes off the drum.
-
- Please note; if the drum has already been coated with SuperHard Coat
or Mega-Coat, you will not need to clean the drum with alcohol. Once finished, let the
drum rotate for a few seconds so that any alcohol will evaporate completely.
-
- 3. While the drum is still turning in the lathe, dip the coating swab
(Part # SWB-50) into the bottle of SuperHard Coat or Mega-Coat. After the swab has
absorbed the coating, squeeze both sides of the swab on the inside of the bottle. The swab
should now have more coating along the edges than in the middle. The middle sections of
the swab, on both sides, will look as if they are not completely saturated but they are.
You must do this step exactly as written! DO NOT DEVIATE FROM THIS APPLICATION
METHOD!
-
- 4. Place the swab on the drum surface starting from the left or right
side of the drum. Hold the handle of the swab down and begin to move the swab slowly to
the opposite side. It should take you roughly 30 to 35 seconds to go from one end of the
drum to the other (15 seconds to 1 minute if you are using an autocoater). You must move
the swab slowly to avoid any skipping. When you reach the end of the drum, roll the swab
counter clockwise and lift the swab off the drum surface. Note; after you apply the
coating, place the swab back into the bottle for the next application. The swabs can be
used for about 10 drums before you need to discard.
-
- 5. Continue to let the drum rotate for 20 seconds before removing. In
some cases you may see the coating ripple to one side; this is perfectly normal. What you
are seeing is the coating being evenly distributed along the entire length of the drum.

rack in a dark area to let them cure and to protect them from light or loose dust or
toner. For easy curing and stacking of your coated drums you can use our Drum Drying Racks
(Part # DR195). Each rack will hold up to 19 SX type drums and can be stacked on top of
each other.
-
- 7. Curing time for a SuperHard Coated or Mega-Coated drum in most
areas is 4 to 6 hours with normal air drying. If possible, it is best to let the
drums cure overnight. After the drums have been properly cured and dried, you can
now place the drum into a cartridge. Be sure to use padding powder on the drum! We have
found that the best dry lubricant is Zinc Stearate. Do not use toner or Kynar powder as a
dry lubricant.
-
- NOTE: SuperHard Coat and Mega-Coat are photoconductive coatings that
are harder than the original OEM drum surface. Any normal wear and tear will take place on
the coating and not the actual drum surface, thereby assuring a maximum lifecycle of 5 to
6 cycles on SX, LX and PX drums and 1 to 2 cycles on NX, EX, BX and WX drums. Also note
that SuperHard Coat and Mega-Coat are multiple cycle coatings. You will NOT have to
re-coat the drums each time they come back. Please note that these cycles may very
depending on customer usage and wiper blade condition.
-
- SuperHard Coat and Mega-Coat will not work with PC copier drums, IBM
drums or the CX drum.

- INSTANT
BLACK APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Instant Black works with HP cartridges that use PCR
technology. Instant Black produces perfect 1.5 print density,
solid blacks and sharper text while eliminating blasting, shadowing and ghosting.
-
- We have found that Instant Black also works well on doctor blades.
Follow the last page of instructions for application.
- There is a separate formula available for SX mag rollers. The
SX mag roller coating will only work on black mag rollers, it will not work on silver mag
rollers. You also have to make sure the toner you are using does not contain a
high level of silica. Application is as follows for both formulas.
-
- 1. Remove the mag roller from the toner hopper.
-
- 2. Vacuum or blow off the mag roller with clean, dry, compressed air.
The roller can be vacuumed off with a soft rubber attachment on a vacuum hose, or by
lowering the roller into a vacuum hose. Hold the roller vertically by the contact end.
-
- 3. With most of the loose toner now removed, any remaining loose
toner particles can be wiped clean with a techwipe (Part # T-1276). These wipes are
included with your bottle of Instant Black.
-
- DO NOT CLEAN THE MAG ROLLER WITH ALCOHOL UNLESS THE ROLLER IS
EMBEDDED BY VISIBLE TONER OR A FOREIGN SUBSTANCE. Instant Black will work if you
need to clean the roller with alcohol but you will be doing unnecessary work. Alcohol will
reduce the effectiveness of the OEM coating because it dissolves any remaining invisible
toner residue and the resulting mixture will fill in the porous microscopic surface of the
HP black mag roller.
-
- 4. Either cut a new, clean techwipe cloth into four squares, or use
only a portion of the whole techwipe without cutting it. Spray the techwipe with Instant
Black until it becomes saturated.
- If you are using a sample bottle of Instant Black, there is a dropper
attachment instead of a spray attachment, therefore you will need to drop roughly 10 drops
of coating onto the techwipe.
-
- 5. Let the techwipe dry until it becomes stiff (approx. 5 minutes).
Wrap the dry, stiff techwipe around the roller and rub the entire roller 4 to 5 times with
firm strokes using an up and down motion, while rotating the roller. Do not be afraid of
overlapping the coating. This will in no way harm the performance. A black stain will
appear on the cloth where you use it to coat the roller. The stain consists of toner
debris and perhaps some of the worn OEM mag roller surface.
-
- 6. The mag roller is ready to install.
- * TECHWIPES MUST BE USED FOR APPLYING INSTANT BLACK. WE
HAVE TRIED TO USE OTHER CLOTHS, HOWEVER, HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE UNSUCCESSFUL.

POLY-2000 PRECLEANER
INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-Cleaner is to be used to remove baked on toner
from the edges of your drums and PCRs. Please read the following instructions before
use:
1. Shake bottle before using.
2. Apply a small amount of pre-cleaner on a soft,
lint free cloth such as our chicopee cloth (part #W1275). Use the size of approximately a
dime.
3. Apply to the drum while it is rotating in the lathe. If
you are cleaning a PCR there is no need for a lathe, you can do this step while holding
the PCR in your hand. Move the cloth back and forth with medium pressure in a circular
motion across the drum or PCR.
4. Let the drum or PCR dry. Using a clean area of the cloth,
buff off residue.
5. If you are cleaning a PCR, skip this step! Spray a
clean cloth with a small amount of 99% alcohol and apply to the drum in the same manner.
This will remove any residue left on your drum from the pre-cleaner. Be sure to wipe off
any residue that the alcohol may leave with another clean cloth.
6. Your drum or PCR is ready to coat.

- TUFF COAT APPLICATION
INSTRUCTION
-
- Tuff-Coat is a single cycle drum coating for laser
printer drums, formulated with the maximum level of Teflon. It is applied by hand using a
soft, lint free cloth. We have also found that using Tuff-Coat on wiper blades
reduces friction and blade flipping. Follow the application instructions below when
applying Tuff-Coat to wiper blades.
-
- There are two methods that can be used when applying
Tuff-Coat drum coating to your laser printer drums. The coating can either be used
by itself or in conjunction with Hard-Coat, SuperHard-Coat, or our newest OPC
drum coating Mega-Coat. Using Tuff-Coat by itself provides a fast, easy way to
coat your drums. Simply follow the application instructions below. Tuff-Coat can be
used on your drums that have been coated with either Hard-Coat,
SuperHard-Coat or Mega-Coat. The benefit to using Tuff-Coat this way is
that you are extending the life of your drums for an almost indefinite amount of time
(especially when used with SuperHard-Coat or Mega-Coat). You will need to follow the
separate instructions for either coating. After the drums have cured for the stated amount
of time, apply Tuff-Coat using the application instructions below, skipping step #1.
-
- APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
-
- 1. Remove any loose toner from the drum. You can accomplish
this by using our Toner Grabber Cloths (part# T-1276).
-
- 2. Apply a small amount of Tuff-Coat drum coating to a
soft, lint free cloth such as our Chicopee Cloths (part# W1275).
-
- 3. Wipe the entire drum surface with the cloth. Do not be
afraid to overlap the coating. Make sure the entire drum surface is covered.
-
- 4. Immediatley after coating the drum, use a dry portion of
your cloth and re-wipe the drum to a mirror like finish. Make sure you have re-wiped the
entire drum surface.
-
- 5. Your drum is ready to install.
-
- When Tuff-Coat is used with Hard-Coat, you may not have
to re-apply Hard-Coat when it comes back for a next cycle (even thougth Hard-Coat is a single cycle
drum coating). Regardless
of which method you are using,, you will need to apply Tuff-Coat each time your drums and wiper blades come back
for the next cycle. There is no need for padding powder when Tuff-Coat is used on wiper blades. You
may see some background on your copies at first. This will clear up after about twenty
pages and will not return.
